At Pioneera, we are passionate about ensuring that everyone in the workplace can easily access mental health support exactly when needed.
June 13-19 is International Men's Health Week. On average, 1 in 8 men will have depression, and one in 5 men will experience anxiety at some stage. Yet, one of the most significant issues with mental health for men is the stigma associated with talking about mental health or asking for help with mental health issues.
Men will often openly talk about eating better, getting fit and their physical health, but can often be a locked box when discussing emotions, feelings, mental health, and self-care. This is one of the reasons our AI bot Indie is so successful, by gently de-stigmatising mental health issues through proactive nudges and resources delivered directly to the person who needs them.
If you are passionate about mental health like we are, this week is the perfect time to get in, check in with the men in your workplace, and work together to normalise these conversations.
If you're worried that someone may be struggling, or you think that you need help, look for these signs that indicate a need for further assistance:
changes in mood
a difference in work performance
weight changes
sadness, hopelessness, or anhedonia (a loss of pleasure and pulling away from things that used to provide enjoyment)
physical symptoms, such as headaches and stomach issues.
If you recognise any of these symptoms in a colleague or friend, remind them that asking for help can be a sign of strength rather than weakness.
Together, we can work together toward a happy, healthier workplace.
